National coach Walid Regragui commented on the return of Atlas Lions captain Romain Saïss after missing the camp in March. He reiterated that Saïss was not called up to allow Regragui to test younger players.

During a press conference on Tuesday, where Regragui announced the selection of the Atlas Lions for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, he emphasized his confidence in Saïss and his leadership qualities.

The coach also spoke about concerns regarding the readiness of Nayef Aguerd following his injury at West Ham. He noted that Aguerd is working on his physical condition with the national team doctor.

In response to questions about the lack of Botola players in the selection, Regragui said that his selection is based on merit and alignment with his playing style. He used the examples of Rahimi and El Kaabi, who were called up after improving their performances. The coach made it clear that there will be no quota for players from the local league, adding, “If names emerge that deserve to be in the national team, they will be called up.”
