The measure, which will be effective from June 1, will increase the number of countries eligible for visa-free access from 57 to 93.

The Thai Cabinet has approved new visa measures aimed at attracting more tourists, including visitors from Morocco. As part of the initiative, Moroccan tourists will no longer need a visa to enter Thailand and can stay for up to 60 days.

The measure, effective from June 1, 2024, is part of broader efforts to enhance Thailand’s appeal to international visitors, according to the Bangkok Post.

The country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has proposed these measures to attract as many visitors as possible, said government spokesperson Chai Wacharonke.

With the recent changes, the number of countries eligible for visa-free access has risen from 57 to 93, with notable additions such as Cambodia, China, India, Jamaica, Kazakhstan, Laos, Mexico, and Uzbekistan.

Additionally, the Cabinet has approved visas on arrival for 31 countries, up from 19 previously. This expansion is expected to simplify the entry process for tourists from these countries.

A new five-year visa has also been introduced, targeting digital nomads, remote workers, freelancers, and those interested in learning Muay Thai and Thai cuisine. This “Destination Thailand Visa” allows stays of up to 180 days, extendable by another 180 days. Previously, such visitors were limited to two stays of 30 days each.

Foreign students in higher education can now stay for a year after graduating, instead of being required to leave the country immediately after completing their courses.

For long-stay visitors aged 50 or older, the mandatory health insurance has been reduced from 3 million baht to 440,000 baht. This adjustment is effective from September to December.

The Cabinet has also approved the expansion of e-visa application services at Thai consulates and embassies, which will increase from 47 to 94 locations, starting in September.
