The literary scene in Morocco has just received a boost with the announcement of two new literary prizes: the Costa Goldex Morocco Book Award and the Costa Goldex Young Writer’s Prize.

In a statement, the organizers of the two new prizes said their goal is to recognize Moroccan writers and encourage young talent. These prizes aim to highlight the creativity of Moroccan authors and bring their books to a broader audience across the country, they emphasized.

The Costa Goldex Morocco Book Award will be awarded to a book written by a Moroccan author in English. The winner will receive a cash prize of 25,000 MAD and support to promote their book nationwide.

The Costa Goldex Young Writer’s Prize aims to provide a similar platform of recognition for young Moroccan writers in high school. The winning writer will receive recognition, money, and help to share their stories in Costa Goldex stores.

Both prizes will be awarded annually during the Marrakech English Book Festival, starting in January 2025. The announcement from the organizers described both prizes as an opportunity for Moroccan writers to showcase their work and gain recognition in the literary world.

If you are a Moroccan writer with a book in English, make sure it meets the criteria for the Morocco Book Award. And if you are a young writer, don’t miss the deadline to submit your stories by July 31. These prizes could be your big break into the world of literature.
