As anticipation grows for the 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has just issued a statement announcing the date for the draw of the qualifiers.

CAF stated that the draw is scheduled for July 4th and will take place at the SuperSport studios in Johannesburg. This marks the first official step towards the commencement of a highly anticipated edition of Africa’s most prestigious football tournament.

With this announcement, the stage is set for an exciting event that will determine the path for teams across the African continent.

In addition to the four winners from the preliminary round – Chad, Eswatini, Liberia, and South Sudan – a total of 48 countries will participate in the AFCON qualifiers.

These teams will be divided into 12 groups of four teams each.

The qualifiers will begin in September 2024 to select the 24 teams that will participate in Africa’s largest football event, the TotalEnergies AFCON.

Morocco will host Africa’s premier sporting event for the second time, 35 years after the last time in 1988.

The North African country is also set to co-host the 2030 World Cup along with Spain and Portugal.
