The Australian Embassy is hosting a special “Meet the Artist” event in Casablanca tonight, promising a cultural exchange that transcends borders.

The Myriem Himmich Gallery will serve as the backdrop for the event, where photographer Naomi Hobson will engage with both the Moroccan public and the artistic community.

According to a press release shared with Morocco World News (MWN), this gathering offers a rare opportunity for the Moroccan artistic community to get acquainted with Hobson, whose provocative exhibition “Adolescent Wonderland” is currently captivating audiences at the National Photography Museum of Rabat.

In the press release, Hobson expressed the goal of her exhibition. “Today, photography must push boundaries… I use this medium to tell real stories that, in my opinion, are either untold or have never been told.”

She emphasized her aim to reveal the essence of youth: vibrant, adventurous, intelligent, resourceful, proud, mischievous, and playful.

The press release adds that the title “Adolescent Wonderland” is inspired by Lewis Carroll’s classic children’s novel “Alice in Wonderland.”

Themes such as youth, mischief, and childhood memories resonate through Hobson’s photos, where vivid figures and their accessories invite the viewer into a dreamlike reality.

The Australian Ambassador to Morocco, Michael Cutts, commented on Hobson’s work in the statement. “Naomi Hobson’s exhibition offers a glimpse into the Australian government’s foreign policy, which aims to showcase a modern Australia,” he said. “I am delighted that the Moroccan public can explore these beautiful photographs.”

Hobson hails from the Southern Kaantju/Umpila community and resides in Coen, a small town of 360 people in the heart of the Cape York Peninsula in northern Queensland.

Inspired by her immediate surroundings, Hobson’s works eloquently convey her enduring connection to the land and the ancestral ties that bind her people to their traditional territories.
