The latest FIFA world rankings, released on Thursday, confirmed Morocco’s position as the highest-ranked African country. The Atlas Lions rose one spot to the 12th position globally, reflecting their recent victories during the international break.

With 1,669.44 points, they now have a comfortable lead over continental rivals such as Senegal (18th), Egypt (36th), Ivory Coast (37th), Nigeria (38th), Tunisia (41st), and Algeria (44th).

However, the global rankings remained relatively stable. Argentina continues to lead the rankings, followed by France, Belgium, and Brazil in the top four positions. England (5th), Portugal (6th), Netherlands (7th), Spain (8th), Croatia (9th), and Italy (10th) complete the current top 10.

Morocco’s dominant victories over Zambia (2-1) and the Republic of Congo (6-0) at the Grand Stade d’Agadir proved crucial for their rise in the rankings.

The new rankings come amid a period of minimal international competition outside the recent break. Major tournaments like Euro 2024 and the Copa America are currently ongoing, and their results are expected to influence the next FIFA rankings, to be released on July 18.

While the global order may shift in the coming weeks, Morocco’s current ranking is a positive sign for the team. Head coach Walid Regragui’s tactical approach seems to be paying off, with the Atlas Lions consistently performing at a high level.

Maintaining their position and potentially climbing further will, however, require continued success in upcoming matches. Morocco will be keen to continue their strong form in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, where they aim to secure their place in the prestigious tournament.

Looking ahead, several factors could influence Morocco’s future ranking. Injuries to key players, the performances of other African countries in upcoming matches, and Morocco’s own results in the qualifiers will all be closely watched.

For now, Morocco enjoys the distinction of being the 12th best footballing nation in the world. This achievement reflects their dedication and recent dominance and offers a promising future for the team on the international stage.
