The number of Moroccan pilgrims who died during the 2024 Hajj season has so far reached 20, according to the Moroccan Ministry of Islamic Affairs.

A statement from the ministry today reported that the deaths occurred among pilgrims traveling with travel agencies and under the ministry’s hajj campaign.

The ministry reassured Moroccan citizens concerned about the situation, stating that the number of deaths among Moroccan pilgrims is almost the same as during the same period last year during the Hajj.

The ministry explained that the deaths were due to natural causes and noted that 15% of Moroccan pilgrims this year are over 80 years old.

The statement further emphasized that the number of deaths among Moroccan pilgrims has varied annually between 30 and 45 cases over the past 20 years.

Several reports expressed concern about the increasing number of deaths among pilgrims worldwide this year.

According to reports, the number of deaths during this year’s Hajj has exceeded 1,000. More than half of those who died were unregistered pilgrims.

The hajj rituals were also marked by scorching and extreme heat in Saudi Arabia.

Reports indicated that among the deaths, more than 658 Egyptians died during the Hajj. Approximately 630 of them were unregistered pilgrims.
