Abdelmajid Bernaki, the interim president, is now the official president of Wydad Casablanca, replacing ousted president Saïd Naciri, who is entangled in legal issues.

Abdelmajid Bernaki was elected president of Wydad Casablanca during the extraordinary general assembly following the ordinary general assemblies held on Thursday, March 28th, at a luxury hotel in the economic metropolis.

The new president of the Red team was elected by 81 votes against 3 abstentions.

The elected list also includes, as members, Abdessadek Mourchid, Hicham El Mellakh, Kamal Lahlou, Mustapha Mellouki, Nabil Lahlou, Saad Drieb, Brahim Laassri, Mohamed Idrissi, Abdellah Bennani, Mouhcine Benssouda, and El Kassri Mohamed Adil.

Prior to this extraordinary general assembly, Wydad Casablanca held its ordinary general assemblies for the 2019-2020, 2020-2021, 2021-2022, and 2022-2023 seasons.

This change comes after about a decade of Saïd Naciri’s “reign,” who is currently incarcerated at Oukacha prison for his involvement in the “Escobar du Sahara” case.

For reference, Wydad Casablanca currently occupies the 5th place in the Botola Pro D1 Inwi standings with 37 points, 21 points behind the league leaders, AS FAR.

Eliminated from the group stage of the African Champions League, WAC is still in the running for the Throne Cup, where they will face Jeunesse Sportive Soualem in the Round of 16 on Sunday, March 31st.
