ClimateLaunchpad, a global competition for green business ideas, will hold its 2024 Bootcamp in Morocco from June 19-22.

The event, hosted at StartGate, the startup campus of the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), is a key part of the Climovation accelerator program, which aims to cultivate and support high-impact climate entrepreneurs.

This year, the bootcamp introduces a new initiative: the “Women in Cleantech” (WiC) expert meeting. Scheduled for the first day, the meeting is co-organized with the WOMENA project of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

This collaboration underscores ClimateLaunchpad’s commitment to promoting a more inclusive cleantech sector by empowering female entrepreneurs.

A press release from ClimateLaunchpad stated: “We are excited to add new elements to the Climovation ecosystem. The WiC meeting will bring together more than 20 experts in entrepreneurship, sustainability, investment, and clean technology.”

The WiC meeting focuses on the ongoing gender gap in the cleantech industry. Despite the growing advocacy for women in STEM fields, many women in the MENA region and Africa, particularly in remote areas, face significant entry barriers.

Access to resources, mentorship, and guidance remains a challenge. However, the crucial role women play in environmental issues cannot be overstated. Many women in cooperatives and family businesses are already driving positive change through sustainable practices.

“These unprecedented women are often the silent driving forces behind success,” the press release continued. “As the entrepreneurial ecosystem in our region evolves, it is crucial to guide and support them, ensuring they access and thrive in the global market.”

The bootcamp itself will host 18 carefully selected startups. Over four intensive days, participants will benefit from personalized mentoring sessions and expert guidance from UM6P-StartGate and GIZ Morocco.

The program is designed to equip these startups with the necessary skills and knowledge to compete in the national finals, followed by the regional finals of Africa, and ultimately the global finals later this year in the Netherlands.

The 2024 ClimateLaunchpad bootcamp, with a focus on both climate entrepreneurship and the empowerment of women, positions Morocco as a potential leader in promoting a diverse and impactful cleantech future.

The event promises to provide a platform not only for empowering entrepreneurs with innovative solutions but also for potentially shaping a more sustainable future for the region and beyond.
