Morocco’s ambitious driver’s license revamp encountered a speed bump on March 25th. A nationwide 80% failure rate on the new theoretical exam, featuring a completely revamped question bank by NARSA, surprised everyone. The Ministry of Transport and Logistics, led by Mohammed Abdeljalil, swiftly responded.

Following a cabinet meeting, Minister Abdeljalil highlighted the exam’s significance as more than just a test. It’s a cornerstone project aligning with the 2017 National Road Safety Strategy, focusing on improved driver education through training, awareness, and stricter controls. Launched in 2020, the project involved two years of work by NARSA and collaboration with driving schools.

Responding to the low scores, the Ministry and NARSA analyzed the results and identified shortcomings. They implemented necessary corrections, and thankfully, pass rates climbed throughout the week. By Wednesday, success rates ranged from 32/40 to 39/40 for the “B” type license and between 38/46 and 42/46 for other categories. The Ministry anticipates a 55% success rate by Friday and a return to usual rates soon.

NARSA is urging everyone to embrace this reform. Their goal is to ensure proper training for new drivers, ultimately contributing to a safer road environment in Morocco.
