During the opening ceremony, Morocco announced that it will launch its Digital Strategy 2030 in the coming weeks as part of its digitization reforms.

Africa’s largest technology event, GITEX Africa Morocco 2024, has started today in the red-hued city of Marrakech, one of the world’s most renowned destinations.

The leading platform for technology and startups on the continent offers thousands of exhibitors the opportunity to showcase their innovations to high-ranking representatives from various sectors.

Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch addressed the attendees during the opening ceremony of GITEX Africa, noting that the event serves as an exceptional platform to discuss ways to position Africa as both a producer and consumer of digital technology.

“Today, digital transformation is an indispensable factor in the collaboration between African countries, which contributes to economic, social, and political growth in Africa,” said Akhannouch.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of trade between countries on the continent and noted that this sector is often hindered by inadequate infrastructure and complex administrative procedures.

He stated that trade would greatly benefit from digitalization, noting that e-commerce and online payment platforms can simplify commercial operations, reduce costs, and improve efficiency.

Morocco’s Digital Strategy During his speech, the Prime Minister announced that Morocco will launch its Digital Strategy 2030, which will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

“This strategy is the result of synergy and intensive collaboration between various actors from the public and private sectors,” he explained.

Akhannouch emphasized that the strategy will rest on two pillars, with a focus on digitizing government services.

The second pillar will focus on integrating new dynamics into the digital economy to develop Moroccan digital solutions, create added value, and generate employment opportunities.

GITEX Africa will continue until May 31 and is expected to feature more than 1,500 exhibitors from over 130 countries.

The goal of the hub is to facilitate exchanges about the latest technological developments, particularly in the areas of AI, health, and cybersecurity.

In a recent interview with Morocco World News (MWN), the Moroccan Minister of State for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform emphasized the importance of GITEX on the sidelines of a press conference, noting that the event will feature 1,500 exhibitors compared to 900 last year.

The hub will also host 800 startups, doubling the number from 400 last year. GITEX also expects 50,000 visitors, a significant increase from about 30,000 in the previous edition.

“This enthusiasm reflects the confidence of global stakeholders in positioning Morocco as a true regional player in the digital arena,” the minister added.

The minister expects that the event will strengthen Morocco’s position as a major contributor to the development of Africa.
