The Moroccan international footballer has emerged as a strong candidate to compete for the African Ballon d’Or.

The Real Madrid star, who has significantly contributed to his club’s success in securing the Champions League title, has a “serious chance” of winning the African Ballon d’Or, argued Marca.

“In fact, Brahim could be the first Real Madrid player to win this award, which was created by France Football in 1970 but now officially belongs to the Confederation of African Football (since 1992),” wrote Marca.

The Spanish news outlet highlighted Diaz’s dedication to Los Blancos and to Morocco’s Atlas Lions, with whom he will make his official debut as a national team player.

Diaz recently played in two friendly matches for Morocco but will make his first official appearance in a competitive match on Friday against Zambia as part of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Marca also emphasized how Diaz strives to promote the image of Morocco, in particular, and that of the entire continent.

“He has always said that he feels very loved and that it would be a dream to win this Ballon d’Or and other trophies” with the Atlas Lions, Marca added.

Diaz appeared in 45 matches for Real Madrid this season, scoring 12 goals.

In March, Diaz expressed his satisfaction with the decision to represent Morocco in an interview.

“I feel 100% Spanish and I feel 100% Moroccan. I grew up in Spain. If I have to score a goal for Spain, of course, I would be happy, but I would also prefer to score for another national team,” said Diaz, who described himself as a player with Moroccan roots but raised and shaped in Spain.
