Following global success in the automotive industry and attracting companies from Asia and Europe for the manufacturing and assembly of vehicles, attention is now turning to the aerospace sector.

In recent years, Morocco has succeeded in attracting various international companies to invest in the aircraft industry, with currently 142 companies in Morocco active in the aerospace sector providing about 20,000 jobs.

The export of the aerospace sector in the country amounted to 21 billion dirhams ($2.1 billion) in 2022, compared to 15 billion dirhams ($1.5 billion) in 2021, with a growth of 40%.

Morocco aims to produce a complete aircraft that will take off from Morocco for the first time, according to Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezouar, especially since the country is on the list of 20 countries that produce aircraft parts internationally.

Last April, the Moroccan government approved a draft decree concerning the design and production of aircraft, establishing standards for their design, production, and maintenance.

The government aims to increase investments in the sector, particularly with reports about the opening of the first drone factory in the country.

Abdelaziz Errami, a Moroccan economist, considers the development of the aircraft industry in Morocco as a success story that has gone through various stages and contributed to the progress and success of the sector.

He emphasized that Morocco managed to attract large companies, resulting in the current employment of 20,000 in the sector.

After this phase, the country decided to move to the phase of producing a complete aircraft to join the major players in this field.

Minister Mezouar stated that Morocco aims to produce a complete aircraft that will take off from Morocco for the first time, with all parts assembled in the kingdom.

According to media reports, the country plans to open a drone factory. To keep up with developments in this sector, the government has enacted new laws.
