The Royal Moroccan Swimming Federation (FRMN), in collaboration with the Moroccan Railways Sports Association (USCM), is organizing the sixth edition of the International Water Polo Tournament in Rabat. The event, taking place from May 29 to June 1, will be held under the theme “Promoting Water Polo through Coach Training.”

The organizers described the tournament in a press release as the only event of its kind in Morocco, adding that the competition aims to develop water polo through matches that bring together the best clubs in Morocco and international teams. The event is the result of the collaboration between FRMN, USCM, and the Embassy of Hungary in Rabat, according to the statement.

This year’s tournament emphasizes gender inclusivity, with women represented at all levels—from the new club administration to the referee team and the participating teams. The organizers highlighted that this initiative underscores the event’s commitment to promoting women’s participation in water polo and encouraging greater female involvement in the sport.

Expectations for this edition are high, with more than a dozen renowned international teams from Hungary, Croatia, Italy, Spain, France, Canada, and Tunisia expected to participate. A press conference was held on May 24 in Rabat to introduce these teams and conduct the draw for the matches.

The event promises to offer Moroccan players a unique opportunity to compete against high-level international teams and is said to significantly contribute to the visibility and growth of the sport in the country.

Additionally, the tournament will feature a demonstration match involving Special Olympics Morocco to promote the integration of children with intellectual disabilities through sport.

FRMN expressed confidence that the competition would be a great success and hopes that this year’s edition will further promote water polo and encourage more women to participate in the sport in the coming years.
