The Atlas Lions of Morocco are in the second pot along with Kazakhstan, Thailand, France, Ukraine, and Paraguay.

Sunday marks the highly anticipated draw for the FIFA Futsal World Cup, which will reveal the fate of Morocco’s Atlas Lions in the upcoming competition to be held in Uzbekistan this year. The draw will take place today in Samarkand at 9:00 PM local time in Uzbekistan. In Morocco, the show will begin at 5:00 PM. FIFA+ will broadcast the show live and for free. Fans can watch the draw from anywhere in the world. In addition to FIFA+, the Moroccan sports channel Arriyadia will also broadcast the draw today at 5:00 PM local time. The draw pots will contain four pots, each containing six countries. The first pot consists of the host country Uzbekistan, as well as Brazil, Portugal, Spain, Iran, and Argentina. The second pot includes Morocco, Kazakhstan, Thailand, France, Ukraine, and Paraguay. The third pot consists of Croatia, New Zealand, Venezuela, Afghanistan, Costa Rica, and Tajikistan, while the fourth pot includes the Netherlands, Guatemala, Panama, Libya, and Cuba.

“The six groups will consist of one team from each of the four pots,” announced FIFA, reminding that Brazil leads the FIFA Futsal World Rankings, followed by Portugal, Spain, Iran, Argentina, and Morocco. The ranking is the first of its kind, having emerged earlier this month as the first publication of such rankings for the futsal sport.

Morocco is among the top six teams due to its impressive performances on the futsal field, including the AFCON, where the Atlas Lions captured the Futsal trophy after defeating Angola 5-1 in the final in April. Morocco’s futsal journey has also been filled with other successes, including the Atlas Lions’ victory in the final of the Arab Futsal Cup in June last year. In a recent interview with FIFA, Hicham Dguig, the coach of the Atlas Lions, stated that the key to the team’s success is “hard work and perseverance.” Dguig added that his role as a playmaker allows for a “constantly evolving approach to the game because you are the link between the field and the coach.” He said that this approach “forces you to have a more developed love for the discipline.”
