The Moroccan national team is back in action, with coach Walid Regragui announcing his squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Zambia and the Republic of Congo. This comes just a few months after the friendly matches in March and following criticism from fans about the team’s performance.

Regragui has chosen a core group of players he has been building since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, while integrating Brahim Diaz and Eliesse Ben Seghir, who were present at the previous gathering.

A notable return is Romain Saiss, who missed the friendly matches. Regragui emphasized his confidence in Saiss’ leadership and experience, calling his return “natural” and deserved. A surprising addition is Oussama Targhalline, a promising 22-year-old midfielder from Le Havre in Ligue 1. Regragui spoke highly of Targhalline, calling him “one of the best players of his generation” and expressing hope for his further development.

Regragui discussed the fitness of Nayef Aguerd and Azzedine Ounahi, who are working on their recovery, assuring fans that both players will be ready for the qualifiers. The coach also highlighted the players’ commitment, stating that they are willing to join the team despite the shorter preparation time due to club commitments. He emphasized their motivation to erase the disappointment of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and focus on World Cup qualification, a “priority” for the team.

Morocco will face Zambia on June 7 at 8:00 PM at the Grand Stade d’Agadir, followed by a match against Congo Brazzaville on June 11 at 5:00 PM at the Martyrs Stadium in Kinshasa.
