A survey by the Moroccan Center for Citizenship (CMC) revealed that 57% of survey participants believe that cancelling Eid this year would alleviate pressure on them.

The pressure stems from the rising costs of sacrificial animals, with the survey results showing that the high prices of sacrificial animals are a major concern for Moroccans, with 85% expecting prices to be higher compared to last year.

64% of participants blame the rising prices on the government, which they believe prioritizes the interests of butchers and livestock breeders at the expense of citizens, with 82% believing that the government should have provided financial support to needy families to buy sacrificial animals instead of supporting sheep importers.

The data showed a division among Moroccans about celebrating Eid al-Adha this year, with 48% indicating they do not want to celebrate, while 44% said they do.

A division that highlights the level of financial difficulties Moroccans face, especially as 75% of participants consider Eid al-Adha as the main occasion to strengthen family ties among Moroccans.

The survey shows that 63% of participants feel a strong connection to the holiday, while 23% feel somewhat connected, and only 5% feel no connection to the holiday.

The survey also shows that 82% of participants consider religious reasons as the main motivation for Eid al-Adha, while only 12% see it as a social motive. However, 37% of participants reported sharing part of it with the needy, while 55% used all the sacrificial meat for family consumption.

With 70% of Moroccan families allowing their children to attend the slaughter process, 60% of participants believe that Moroccan families prefer not to forgo buying sacrificial animals to ensure their children do not miss the holiday.
